SERVING YOU HAS BEEN A GREAT HONOR. WE ARE NOTIFIED THAT OUR EMERGENCY MEAL DELIVERY SERVICES WILL BE CLOSING. August 27th, is our last day of hot food delivery; on August 29th, is our last day of food box delivery.
In the past months, community members were honored to be assisted in meeting their dietary needs during the early phase of the COVID-19 health crisis. The initiative, which began with a few dozen meals in the back of a car, soon expanded into something much larger and more significant for everyone involved—including the drivers, community partners, and the recipients of the meals.
It is now announced that Thursday, August 27th marked the last day for delivering hot meals, and Saturday, August 29th was the final day for delivering food boxes. While the desire to continue feeding people remains, the financial plan and organizational structure were established during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing meal distribution until August.
The community is informed that September food boxes may still be available through the USDA Farmers to Families Food program, and further updates will be provided as soon as they are available. Additionally, a list of more community food resources is provided below.
The team at Spokane Food Fighters expresses gratitude for the opportunity to share in the lives of community members over the last five months. Any questions or concerns can be addressed through the contact form below or by sending an email to hello@spokanefoodfighters.org.
Spokane Food Fighters emerged from the desire to do something simple – to try and feed people in a food emergency. In response to the Coronavirus, a Spokane Kid named Marcus Riccelli, who believed that FOOD IS HEALTH, teamed up with two techies, Robbi Katherine Anthony and Patrick McHugh, along with a local philanthropist/activist named Sharon Smith. Smith had a passion for kicking the system in the shorts and solving problems in a nimble fashion. Together, they decided to rally each other and the community to try to help neighbors in need find their next meal.
In unprecedented times when problems seemed overwhelming and solutions appeared too big to get their arms around, Spokane Food Fighters believed that people would join in the FIGHT to end hunger a meal or two at a time. They also hoped to closely partner with restaurants and businesses to see if this could help their bottom line a bit.
They knew that in the oncoming days, there would likely be more people than ever struggling with food insecurity. Whether they could make sure 5 people or 25 people were fed, Spokane Food Fighters were committed to doing something to help. They believed that food nourishes the body, and helping out in Spokane in these times would nourish the soul. They felt the need – the need to feed! If others felt the same way, they hoped they would help where they could and see what they could do together!
